Office 365 Will Require OAuth 2.0 Authentication From October 2020

As of 13th October 2020, Microsoft will disable Basic Authentication for Exchange Web Service (EWS) connectivity to Office 365. Some customers will need to update their tool before this date.

By this date, PureConnect customers utilising Office 365 for email functionality must transition from using Basic Authentication (username and password) to OAuth 2.0. OAuth 2.0 authentication support for EWS is added by DP-2137 in the following PureConnect versions:

  • CIC 2017 R4 P23
  • CIC 2018 R1 P17
  • CIC 2018 R2 P10
  • CIC 2018 R3 P04
  • CIC 2018 R4

Plan your PureConnect Upgrade

Customers connecting to Office 365 using EWS from an older version of PureConnect must plan to upgrade to a current version and transition from Basic Authentication to OAuth no later than 13th October 2020. Customers already running a version of PureConnect including the changes introduced with DP-2137 and using Basic Authentication to authenticate against Office 365 must plan to transition to OAuth authentication prior to this date.

This change affects Office 365 only. Customers using EWS to connect to an on-premise deployment of Microsoft Exchange Server will not be affected.
